Delivered by H.E. Ambassador Amar Bendjama,
Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations at United Nations Security Council on
CAR Sanctions Regime Renewal
29th July 2025

I have the honor to deliver this statement on behalf of the A3+, namely Sierra Leone, Somalia, Guyana, and my own country, Algeria.
We thank the penholder, France, for the smooth negotiation process.
The A3+ welcomes the unanimous adoption of resolution 2789, which renewed the sanctions regime pursuant to resolution 2745 and extended the mandate of the Panel of Experts.
We are particularly pleased that this marks the second consecutive year this Council has demonstrated such unity on this file.
This consensus reflects the positive momentum on the ground, following the dissolution, earlier this month, of two armed groups. Their decision to sign a Peace Agreement with the Central African Government and rejoin the peace process is commendable. The A3+ encourages a similar approach by other armed groups.
Mr. President,
We express sincere gratitude to Chad for its successful mediation between the CAR Government and the two armed groups, namely “Retour, Réclamation et Réhabilitation” and “Unité pour la paix en Centrafrique”.
We are confident that Chad will continue its positive role as Guarantor of the Peace Agreements signed between the CAR Government and the two armed groups.
These are promising steps toward lasting stability in the Central African Republic, particularly in light of the critical local and general elections scheduled for next December.
Mr. President,
The A3+ remains steadfast in its commitment to peace, stability, and the full restoration of State authority in the Central African Republic.
The A3+ looks forward to continued progress and stands ready to support the Central African Government and people on their path to sustaining peace.
Thank you.
