4th September 2025

Dear Brother Ambassador Mohamed Dabo
The Able Chair of the distinguished African Group for the Super hectic month of September,
Succeeding our Dear Brother Ambassador Lamine Dibba
Our Able Chair for the month of August,
Dear Excellencies, Sisters and Brothers;
Members of this formidable African Family,
Good Morning,
Indeed, what a great honour and pleasure to be back to my Family and to my Home.
I feel like coming back to school after few years of liberty in retirement, however I’m sure that my Family members will recharge my batteries with their energy, commitment and dedication.
I’m indeed honoured to be entrusted by H.E. the Chair of the AU Commission to this position, and to succeed in this place my capable Dear Sister Ambassador Fatima Mohamed, who has over the years of her tenure promoted this Office and served our Continent with excellent work and brilliance.
Im sure she will continue to do so in her new assignment and beyond.
I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to her, as well as to my Dear Sister Ambassador Constancia Gasper, who was ably in the lead of the transition period and to all the team of Dear Colleagues, Sisters and Brothers, in this Office who are going to be my great asset in moving forward.
Nothing starts from scratch, I will strive to build on the good legacy of all my predecessors, and to leave a good legacy for those who will come after. We need not to reinvent the wheel, but to move forward guided by the past, its lessons learned and aspiring to the future and its potentials.
I’m aware of the crucial time we are passing through; at the Global and the Continental levels. Africa is at the heart of high geopolitical challenges, we need to put our acts together, with a sense of identity rooted in our history and a hope geared toward the future.
The AU is a member driven entity, with guiding principles and common positions agreed upon and endorsed by our African House at different levels and in different areas of work.
The Ownership is yours as representatives of our member states. This Office, myself and my Dear Colleagues, we are committed to providing the utmost effort to fulfill our duties of supporting, facilitating and defending our common African causes, positions and interests.
The UN is facing serious challenges at its age of 80 and multilateralism is at a crux, Africa as a major stakeholder is at the cross roads.
Together we should stand united to be up to the challenges and to chart our right path forward.
Proper Peace Keeping, Effective Peacebuilding, Fair Sustainable development, Humanitarian issues, Social and Cultural dimensions, UN Reform and UN 80 plan, enhancing our coordination and partnership with the UN system, enhancing our own coordination in NY and with the HQ in Addis Ababa; and many others, all are priorities worth of hard work together.
I’m honored in addition of being empowered by you, Dear Sisters and Brothers, to be well supported by my Dear Colleagues in this Office, we are going to work together in the spirit of a teamwork, which is a basic recipe of any possible success.
As we are approaching the UNGA High-Level week, I know well how it is daunting, with tremendous preparations; logistical and substantive.. I hope we all pass it safe and sound.
After the dust settles, we shall have the time to interact more on the personal and collective levels, and to embark on a joint effort to promote our common work together in New York and to ensure that this Office meets your expectations.
I Conclude by wishing our Muslim Sisters and Brothers a Happy Mawled and to Wish our Dear Ethiopian Sisters and Brothers a Happy upcoming New Ethiopian Year 2018, and we all will happily become 7 years younger.
I was really honored by all your kind and gracious words on African PRs Whats App Group, many Colleagues I had the pleasure and honour of knowing them and working with them before, so I humbly request you to save the welcoming words and your precious time in this meeting and to devote it to other important substantive items in your today’s adopted Ageda.
Let’s follow our African wisdom,
Forward, Never Backwards.
And as long as we are together, hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder,
Hakuna Mattata, No Worries.
Thank you so much.
