30th September 2025

Madame Chair,
Allow me at the outset to thank H.E. Abdoulaye Sabre Fadoul, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Chadians Abroad, for his presentation.
As African Union, we consistently encourage our fellow Member States that are on the PBC agenda to engage with the Commission and share their experiences and achievements in implementing peacebuilding priorities with the support of the PBF.
The African Union has consistently reaffirmed its commitment to accompany the political process in Chad towards a return to constitutional order and strongly supports the request for the PBC to serve as a platform to assess the foundations for peacebuilding established during the political transition and to advance efforts in the post-transition period. The successful return of Chad to constitutional order is a commendable achievement in a complex regional environment.
In this regard, we reaffirm our full support to Chad’s efforts and calls on the international community to mobilize greater attention and resources in support of these important initiatives.
However, the AU is concerned over the dire humanitarian challenges in the country, which are being exacerbated by the influx of refugees fleeing the war in neighboring Sudan, as well as the adverse impact of climate change and natural disasters. The AU calls on Member States and the international community to redouble their efforts in providing humanitarian support to affected populations.
We also expresses its deep concern over the continued fragility of the country’s stability, which is being undermined by persistent security challenges in border areas. The AU is particularly alarmed by the increasing cross-border population movements and the surge in illicit activities, notably the trafficking of firearms, which is fueling the spread of small arms and light weapons and posing a grave risk to peace and security.
Madame Chair,
The support of the PBC to Chad is crucial in mobilizing both technical and financial resources to address Chad’s immediate humanitarian needs while advancing its long-term development and peacebuilding goals.
The African Union commends and thanks Chad’s multilateral and bilateral partners, including the World Bank, IMF and the Peacebuilding Fund, for their substantial technical and financial support to advance governance reforms, decentralization, social cohesion, and sustainable development. These contributions, amounting to billions in investments and catalytic peacebuilding projects, are critical to addressing the root causes of fragility and promoting stability. The AU, while acknowledging this strong engagement, underscores that Chad’s complex challenges require even greater international attention and sustained support to consolidate peace and development gains.
In conclusion, we reaffirm our strong conviction that consolidating institutions, advancing inclusive governance, and nurturing social cohesion are vital to strengthening resilience. With sustained international support and steadfast national determination, Chad has the opportunity to build a future anchored in stability, justice, and prosperity.
Thank you for your attention
